Knowing what to buy or take on holidays can be confusing. Here is a packing list of what or ducks recommend and use regularly on their travels. everything here is 100% duck approved!
There is not everything you will need on this list. You can find out what to take with our interactive checklist:

Our ducks use the Eastpack Travelpack for short to medium trips. It opens up like a suitcase, isn’t too bulky and is very comfortable. A big advantage to this bag is that it is small enough for you to be able to go into places without attracting attention (supermarkets, museums…) but still has loads of space to put all your stuff inside!
Eastpack is also known for their quality, all of their bags have a 30 year guaranty on them. Keep the receipt and take a photo of it!
The choice between a backpack or a suitcase is very personal. The ducks prefer backpacks because they are easier to transport, less bulky and can be taken anywhere. Suitcases are also perfectly acceptable and are great if you have back problems! We recommend trying both on a short trip to see which one you prefer.
Always bring a small foldable backpack with you. You can take it on day trip and when visiting places while your big bag satys at your accomoadation. When you are moving, you can fold it up small so that it doesn’t bother you. Forclaz foldable backpacks are good quality and quite comfortable. They are small for day trips and don’t attract attention. You will look just like a local!
Tote bags are great for shopping and city visits. always take one with you, they are small, foldable and don’t take much space at all. They are also great for travel days to put your essentials while still allowing you to carry your backpack.
Anywhere, from supermarkets to clothes shops or even markets. You can even make one yourself like the mushroom tote bag that our ducks crocheted.
From free to a twentyish pounds
On most trains / planes, you will need a luggage tag. It is always a good idea to have one so that if you loose your bag, someone can contact you. On it, write your full name, adress, phone number with your countries telephone code and your email adress. Our ducks found these really cool tags on some of their travels.
Bookshops, travel shops, supermarkets…
Dinosaur tag – FNAC in Gare Marseille Saint Charles in Marseille in France – 6.95€
Nudibranch tag – DiveInfo in Bangkok – 280 bahts
Bag organisers are genuinaly helpful. They allow you to organise your clothes by type and make packing and unpacking easier. These ones came from pylones.
Most travel shops and some supermarkets sell bag organizers.
3 bag organizers – Pylones – 19.90 €
You need for clothes will depend on:
Here are some clothes that our ducks recommend:
Laura has a slight obsession with socks. She has over 170 pairs and the collection keeps growing. Here are some of her favorite pairs as she wants to share her special interest with the world and thinks that everybody should have cool socks!
Big Wild Thought is a small British business that creates the most amazing wildlife clothing. The are ethical and give away part of their profit to charity. The clothes are very good quality and last forever, as well as being comfortable and cute! Our ducks can’t recommend Big wild Thought enough! The owners also have another business called Morning Club Clothing that is as comfortable and offers many throwback tshirts.

The Wildlife Tust is a uk based charity that works for the protection of wildlife/ They also have a clothing shop to finance the charity. They offers many different styles and have personalized option available, where you can create the designs you want! The clothes are affordable and comfortable.
Hoodies are practical as they have pockets and a hood to hide.
Laura hates coats and will refuse to wear one, whatever the temperatures. She does however quite like raincoats and has found one that she will gladly wear. It is very practical for windy or rainy days and folds up small when not in use! The brand she has is K-way. In France, K-way is so famous that is has become a noun to talk about raincoats. They are durable, comfortable and stylish.
This particular model isn’t sold in shops anymore. However, Laura bought it on Vinted for really cheap (15€), when new shop bought K-way cost a lot of money (around 150€). The link will be for the official K-way website but it is always a good idea to check on Vinted or any other thrift shop!
Most hotels or hostels provide towels. However it is always a good idea to take a small towel in case they don’t have any, for the beach, and for everyday emergencies. You can also take a big towel if you’ve got space in your bag.
The bigger map towel can be found at Awesome Maps. They do different types of maps.

An essential! Our ducks love this eiffel tower toothbrush because it stands on it’s own. This is most practical in shared bathrooms, you do not need to struggle to find somewhere to put your toothbrush down and the head will not touch the sink.
Always bring your own shampoo, shower gel and conditioner. You can find small travel containers to put it inside. Some of our ducks have curly hair and they love Nat et Nove shampoo! You can also buy solid shampoo / shower gel, it will take up less space and be easier to carry.
Nat&Nove curly shampoo – Carrefour – 4.49€
Shampoo bars – Lush – £10
Make a personalized pen like this wonderful pen that our ducks made with the family cat Pinou. Pens come in handy and are really small so they will not make your bag heavier!
Notebooks allow you to have paper to write on which comes in handy from time to time. They do not take up much space. This particular notebook was hand made with paper made from elephant poop in Chiang Mai in Thailand! You can buy a base and customize it however you want, or buy a ready made product. Of course, a notebook doesn’t have to be this fancy, you can take anyone you want.
Cheap earphones work fine. They are great for listening to music during long journeys or drowning out the noises in busy places. If you want better quality, our ducks recommend JBL headphones. As well as having great sound, they are also noise cancelling.
Earplugs are a must if you have sensory issues surrounding noise. Loop earplugs are worth the hype. They are very discreet, comfortable and drown out loud noises while still allowing you to hear what is going on. They also take up very little space in a bag or purse.
Very useful to keep your hands busy and to reduce stress! Our ducks all travel with fidget toys. It is perfectally acceptable to use them in public, no one will care! Here are some of the fidget toys they use. On the right is Emotional Support Broccoli. The other fidgets are from a french website called Plasmik 3D. The owner makes the toys with a 3D printer and he is audhd himself. They are very good quality.
For peaceful nights and cool train journeys, bring your own duck (or any other cuddly toy). It is perfectly acceptable to sleep with one in hostels or take one on a train. No one will ever judge you or look at you odly. You will soon be able to get your very own Up The Hills And Far Away handmade crochet duck!
